A concert with "Music from the world cinema" will be held in Nafplio, on Saturday September 14th 2024, by the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra of Nafplio, at the square of the Holy Church of St. George.
The members of the Municipal Philharmonic, under the teaching and direction of the conductor Teodossis Antoniadis, have prepared a beautiful program with "Music from the world cinema".
The program includes well-known music from films and film soundtracks, wonderful musical adaptations, from outstanding composers of the world music production.

The Nafplio Philharmonic Band has a long history. It begins its activity at the end of the 19th century (1894), when the "Nafplio Philharmonic Society" was founded by private individuals, with Nicolaos Panagopoulos as chief musician. Later, Spyros Neofotistos took over the direction of the Philharmonic. In 1934, the band was transferred to the Municipality, where it also assumed the costs of its maintenance. In the same year, the music professor Vassilios Charamis was hired as the chief musician, who remained the conductor until 2003 (for 69 years)! In 2003, the conductor Theodossis Antoniadis (a student of Vassilios Charamis and his assistant) took over the direction of the band. Today the band has about 50 musicians.
From 1958 until today, dozens of films of all kinds, with truly excellent music, have been shot in Nafplio, with the background of Bourtzi, Palamidi and Syntagma Square. In others, the whole plot takes place in the Argolic city, in others, a few short shots. From director Angelopoulos to Dalianides and from Kakoyannis to Homer Efstratiadis, the directors projected the beauty of Nafplio dressed in wonderful songs, and certainly helped in its tourist promotion. The "champion" director was George Skalenakis with four films.
