BPF Nafplio - "Dress Codes...", September 3rd to October 2nd 2022

The Municipality of Nafplio and the Basil (Vassilis) Papantoniou Foundation (BPF), as part of the events they are organizing, for the 100-year anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, on Friday, September 2nd 2022, has started the exhibition on "Dress Codes: The clothing of the refugees of of Asia Minor, from the Collections of the Basil Papantoniou Foundation" in the cultural space of the BPF "Sofroni 13".

The exhibition includes local costumes and photographic material, both from Asia Minor, as well as from the refugee resettlement areas in Greece. It aims to highlight the diversity of the Greek communities of Asia Minor, to emphasize the dynamics of clothing, to define cultural identities and to be a driving force of memory.

Tips
On Saturday, September 10th, from 10:00-15:30, a conference will be held with the theme "Asia Minor: History-Culture" in the event hall of the Harvard Center for Greek Studies. Because places are limited, it is necessary to register by email at pff@otenet.gr or by phone +30 27520 28947 (Mrs. Kassiani Plati 9:00-14:00).
On Wednesdays of September 2022 (8pm), events will be taking place in the courtyard of the Museum related to the Asia Minor Disaster, such as a book presentation, a film screening (The Rose of Smyrna -2016), discussions about the refugees of the "Neo Byzantio" neighborhood and Nea Kios (the program will be announced day by day).

In "Sofroni 13", the new cultural space of the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation (PFF), starting from the summer of 2021 exhibitions, events etc. are hosted, with first the previous exceptional exhibition entitled "Philhellenic. Collection of Eleni Martinou".
The "B. Papantoniou" (ex Peloponnesian Folklore) Foundation (BPF) is a nonprofit institution based in Nafplion and aims at the research, preservation, study and presentation of the material culture of the Peloponnese as well as of the whole of Greece. It was founded in 1974 by Mrs. Ioanna Papantoniou in memory of her father. It is housed in the residence of B. Papantoniou, which was converted into a museum in 1981.
