A small paradise on earth
That sunny Saturday of autumn, as was leaving the old city of Nafplio on my way to visit the Nafplia Terra guesthouse, nothing was foretelling me that I would be in paradise on earth in a matter of minutes.
Arriving at the entrance, it felt as if a voice has said to me "Wait, just stay here for a while, look!". And listening to it I was left gazing at the grandeur of nature… To see the olive groves that surround the newly built guesthouse, and the green hill of Agia Paraskevi, like a painting in the background. To feel the magic of utter serenity, only interrupted by the twittering of birds…
The land with the olive trees and the hospitable people
"Welcome!". The voice of Kyriaki, the owner of the guesthouse, not only did not interrupt my reverie, but came to be part of it. Along with her husband Dimitri, they took this piece of land and turned it into a small paradise of hospitality, a cozy guesthouse, which since June 2019 welcomes all those who love Nafplio, tranquility and nature.
This was what Kyriaki was narrating me, as the two of us took a leisurely stroll around the area, walking next to the well-carved flower beds of origan, sage and mint, next to the blooming scented rose bushes and the olive trees with their blessed fruits.
A guest house bathed in light, embraced by nature
Entering inside the guesthouse, where the sunlight embraces my every step, we pass by the reception desk and the hospitable owner shows me the ground floor rooms, two double and a triple.
The elegant minimal décor, with shades of olive green and the green/gray of the olive leaves, with nothing superfluous, nothing extravagant, makes you feel the tranquility of nature even inside your room. The folded towels on the bed, bearing the Nafplia Terra logo and the olive plant amenities in the bathroom are the winning details.
Here, not only you will enjoy a deeply satisfying sleep, but also drink your coffee either on the coffee table inside or -even better- at the balcony with panoramic view of the garden. How rare is it to book a room on the ground floor and have this great view! And yet, Nafplia Terra is so carefully built, that through glass openings, windows and balconies make you feel inside nature, a total part of it.
On the upper floor, which hosts the remaining 4 rooms (one triple, two family suites and the premium suite), the décor is set in the same abstract tones and a sense of calm and relaxation, with this unobstructed magnificent view is gloriously given to you.
The mornings of our lives
Kyriaki suggests we continue our conversation by drinking a cup of coffee and pinching some fresh cake in the breakfast area; so bright, with glazed windows all around and its tables in warm wood covered with tablecloths with the logo of the guesthouse and a lovely balcony, which we finally preferred that sunny morning. In a country like Greece, where in most of the months we have this kind of sunshine, what better thing is there, than to wake up relaxed and in good appetite, and to enjoy your breakfast outside, on the balcony or downstairs in the courtyard, surrounded by nature and tranquility?
We discuss with Kyriaki how important a good breakfast is in a hospitality business, as here it is personally handled and she takes care of everything, so that is fresh and homemade. A hearty breakfast, that will give you the energy for the rest of your day, when you leave Nafplia Terra for a few hours to discover the treasures of the Argolic land or to stroll through the alleys of the old town of Nafplio.
For a strange reason, no matter how nice time you are having, you'll soon want to return to the guesthouse, to take a walk in the olive grove, sit on the balcony and think that nature is finally the greatest gift...
Did you know that?
Upstairs, besides from the stairs, you can climb -and mainly carry your luggage- with the elevator.
If you have children, they will be thrilled to play in the playground, located at the back of the estate.
Book a family suite, whether you're a family, a small group of friends or even a couple! Ask Kyriaki for the loft with the double bed and the oblong window with the stunning view and you'll understand why...
Wish for a balcony with the best Palamidi view? The family suite will provide it. Furthermore, there is a shared balcony overlooking Palamidi, to enjoy this unique view along with a coffee or a drink.
Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 10:30 and includes (except the homemade cake I tasted), orange pie, walnut pie, mosaic, chocolate croissant, “bougatsa”, handmade spinach pie and cheese pie, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, omelets, bacon, turkey slices, homemade jam of seasonal fruits, fresh orange juice, all kinds of coffee, cereals, milk –the list is endless!
The old town of Nafplio with its picturesque narrow streets and shops is just 1.5 km from the guest house.
