Does the name of the hotel with the two men's names look strange to you? However, it will seem perfectly natural when I tell you that behind the name are the owners, the two brothers Giannis (John) and Georgios Georgidakis, two businessmen who deeply know tourism, who -through a lot of work- have managed to turn their hotel into a tourist attraction. It is a pleasure to know them and to speak with them, as you learn new things every time and you get inspired by their appetite to be constantly up to date and to move one step further.
Our acquaintance and our first cordial handshake took place in the area of the hotel's huge terrace, with its magnificent sea view. A really dreamy place. Where you want the time to stop, as you sit at the tables under the umbrellas and the pergola enjoying your coffee; or as you relax on the loungers of the pool after a nice swim, while sipping cocktails they have prepared for you at the pool bar, allowing the rays of the sun to sweetly caress you. The truth is that by arriving here, you fix in your mind idyllic images, that you surely want to turn to experiences.
A place of true hospitality
The hotel, which has been operating since 1992 and disposes 132 beds, consists of two units: a large five-store central one and a smaller three-store unit, slightly newer than the first. Entering the main building you are welcomed at the reception, you are then sitting in the living room with the tile-brown little sofas, you can see the breakfast area and the buffet, in the background the comfortable dining room with elegant decoration that reminds you of previous decades, evoking a sense of intimacy and warmth.
As for the rooms in the central unit, whether you want a sea view or of the garden, you can have it from your standard room, which will also offer you comfort space and discreet decoration without exaggeration, for the eye and the mind to rest. On the 5th floor, the executive rooms are more spacious, in white color mostly and simple decoration in green-blue tones, with a large bathroom. The No.505, especially, is ideal for families; a couple, for instance, that will come here with its two children.
In the next wing’s rooms, the decor slightly varies, with the presence of joyful orange and red stripes, while bathrooms and balconies are larger. In this building, there are also three rooms for disabled people on the ground floor, something you do not find often; while if necessary, the hotel provides equipment hire.
The Greek tradition at your... dish
At John & George Hotel, the issue of food is given the emphasis it deserves, from morning till night. Breakfast is of American type, with three juices (orange juice is made from their own oranges), lots of fruits (from their own trees), cheese, sausages, three kinds of bread. At lunchtime the menu is “a la carte” and is served by the pool or in the client’s room (room service) and in the evening the buffet is open, which in the summer is even carried outside, in the terrace, where there is also a barbeque space. The hotel's cuisine is the typical Greek cuisine, which definitely includes vegetables cooked with olive oil, pies, different meats, fish, side dishes, salad bar with 5-6 cold salads (the traditional greek salad is included –of course), vegetable soups (greens soup, tomato soup, zucchini soup, carrot soup, mushroom soup) and for dessert there are sweets made daily (sweets with syrup, halva, orange pie) and fresh fruit.
Holidays... that repeat
I wonder and I ask of what nationalities are the customers, most of whom are repeaters - to receive the answer that a 70% are foreigners (mainly Scandinavians, Danish, Belgians, French and a few Germans) and only a 30% are Greeks.
Why should someone come to Tolo for a holiday? And why in John & George hotel, in particular? Mr. Giannis explains to me that "Tolo combines a lot; the beautiful natural landscape, the sea (the lovely beach is shallow -very convenient if you have children), the sunshine, while in the meantime you can visit important areas nearby, such as Nafplio, Epidaurus and Mycenae, without spending much. Going, for example, sightseeing to Epidaurus in the morning and then enjoying your swim at the beach of Tolo and relaxing at the comfort of your sun lounger, either at John & George's veranda or at the “Dolphin” hotel’s beach…" - which also belongs to the Georgidakis family.
One family, one group of friends
The most important thing: customers here do not encounter an impersonal hotel, but people, with whom they build relationships with; that whatever they request they get, and all this is done effortlessly, spontaneously, easily. It clearly contributes the fact, that there is a family tradition here and the wives of John and George and their parents work here -even their mom, which is the cook! But also, the staff is properly trained and honors the definition of hospitality, a feature that counts a lot for the visitor.
