The alley of V. Olga is rightfully one of my favorites in the old town. Full of fuchsia bougainvilleas, cozy taverns and charming shops, it hosts one of Nafplio's newest and nicest boutique hotels, the DownTown Hotel.
Countless times had I passed outside and wondered what was hiding behind his fashionable door. Hard for me to imagine that this door would open for me, to reveal the ideal choice of accommodation, especially for those of us who love to stay right where the heart of Nafplio beats.
Orestes, its owner, informs me that the building has a history of more than half a century, and even functioned as a hotel in the past, with international clientele until 2013. His family, however, rebuilt it entirely into a modern, state-of-the-art technology hotel, with beautiful double rooms and suites and a loft with dreamy view.
Just like home
I cannot help but say, that DownTown Hotel's reception area is perhaps the most special I have seen in the city. The feeling you get is like stepping into a house with a distinct decor and a positive aura.
A huge glass elephant looks out over the wall behind the reception, while another decorative one on a red furniture with Chinese references helps the feng shui of the space. And treats everywhere! Small bowls with candies and chocolates, bottles of drinks on the tall round table; right next, a platter full of fresh fruit on the long table... A cozy red velvet sofa invites me to take 2-3 books from the shelf behind to have a look and enjoy my cup of coffee.
A few steps up, I see the breakfast area, where in the mornings the buffet is filled with handmade delicacies made by Mrs. Evangelia, Orestes' mother.
Here is where you will stay
Time, however, to see the rooms going up the elevator. The two floors include 4 rooms each, while the latter occupies the attic and its attractive balcony.
Orestes shows me all the rooms, and it impresses me how intimate I feel inside them. Details, such as a warm blanket or bedspread in pale shade on the comfortable beds, oriental rugs on the floor, pink pouches in the open closet wardrobes, patchwork armchairs, a chocolate bar to welcome you... all make you feel the care and the joy of the people who offer it generously.
Rooms overlooking the dream
With balconies, one overlooking Queen Olga's street up to the sea, another to King Alexander's and Siokou str., DownTown Hotel's rooms invite you to stay here, just to wake up in the morning and get a solid dose of beauty, as you open your eyes.
On the top floor, the attic steals the impression, not only with its mix & match decoration and its distinctive roof above the double bed, but mainly with its large balcony overlooking Palamidi castle, the Town's Clock, Akronafplia fortress, with the roof tiles to frame the most wonderful view.
You're at the DownTown Hotel and the city you fall in love at first sight lies at your feet, ready to give you the warmest hospitality, the most carefree moments and the most beautiful memories!
Did you know that?
Syntagma Square is just a couple of minutes' walk from the hotel, while the same street you will find nice hangouts and taverns with really good food.
Breakfast is available at an extra charge, and you will certainly be impressed by the buffet with the omelets, salads, "dakos" rusks, the handmade jams, cakes and pastries that Mrs. Evangelia prepares daily, like the tiramisu, the orange pie, the "halva", different every time...
If you are more than two, ask for the rooms with convertible sofas.
