Nafplio - Ioannis Kapodistrias, Memorial Events 28-29 of September 2019

On the last weekend of September every year, Nafplio City honors the Grand Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias with special Memorial Events.

Events program

Saturday, September 28th 2019
At 19:30 - Vouleftiko Hall: lectures on the life and the work of Ioannis Kapodistrias, by the professors Ioannis Metaxas, Ioannis Panousis and Stelios Perrakis.
The topics, that will be presented at the inaugural event are about References to the Governor's Thought and Practice, another entitled "Kapodistrias' Three Murders" and "John Kapodistria's Plan and Policies in Europe before the Greek Independence Revolution".

Sunday, September 29th 2019
Church of Agios Spyridon: "Orthros" and Divine Liturgy will be performed by His Grace, the Honorable Archbishop of Argolis Mr. Nektarios. A memorial service will follow.
At 10:30 - Kapodistrias Square: restitution of honors and laying of wreaths at the statue of the Governor.

At 11:30 - Syntagma Square: the public will enjoy a music program from the Nafplio Philharmonic Orchestra.

At 19:00 - 4th Nafplio Primary School: The commemoration events will conclude with the inaugural of part of the exhibition "Ioannis Kapodistrias. Routes in its History".

Ioannis Kapodistrias (Corfu 1776 - Nafplio 1831) is a personality of great importance, not only for Greek history but also for the Russian and European history of the early 19th century.
This two-day event is organized by the Municipality of Nafplio, in cooperation with DOPPAT and the Nafplio Foundation "Ioannis Kapodistrias".
Along with the memorial service of the first governor of Greece Ioannis Kapodistrias, on Sunday, September 29th the memorial service commemorates the donors and benefactors of Nafplio.
