Municipality of Nafplio - Summer Events calendar, June 19th to August 28th 2021

During the summer of 2021, the program of summer activities and events of the Municipality of Nafplio to honor the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution, in the field Art - Culture - Folk Tradition, had started, but finally stopped in July 31st 2021, due to the continuous increase of Covid-19 cases of the Delta mutation, which occurred. The events were as follows:

June 19th, 20th and 21st 2021
Courtyard of the National Gallery - at 20:00
"Literature and Art" Festival
An event dedicated to Literature and Poetry, attempting a brief reference to the nourishing influence exerted by the Revolution on the ideas and the work of leading Greek authors and artists.
At 21:00 hours
The heroes of the Greek Revolution come to life again on the walls of Akronafplia.
The walls of Akronafplia will brighten every night, taking shine and glory from the heroes of the Revolution of 1821, in the context of the events for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the most glorious event in the history of the Greek nation. Starting from the evening of Saturday, June 19th 2021 and for three days, a twenty-minute video will be projected from 21:00 to 23:00, showing the heroes and scenes of the revolution. The action is carried out with the support of the Head Office of Antiquities of Argolis.

Philhellinon Square - at 21:00
Thematic concert entitled "The Revolution of 1821 through music", by the Municipal Conservatory of Nafplio "Konstantinos Nonis" in collaboration with the traditional group "Grammes" (Lines).

Friday, June 25th 2021
At 19:00 - Starting: Philhellinon Square. Ending: Three Admirals' Square
Outdoor events for the support  of the continuous, daily struggle for "freedom": "The modern daily struggle for freedom - Struggle for life and against addictions", in collaboration with the Nafplio Mobile Unit of KETHEA Kyttaro-Oxygen.
At 19:00 Vouleftiko building, Nafplio old town
Fourteen high school students from Argolis region will present the results of the five-month research program "Nafplio and Argolis during the Revolution of 1821: place and world", in which they participated under the academic coordination of Dr. Emmanouil Chalkiadakis (Lecturer in History at the University of Crete and Research Fellow at the Center for Greek Studies of Harvard University), with the support of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Argolis and the Association of Philologists of Argolis, under the auspices of the Municipality of Nafplio and the "Nafplio 2021" group of Honors. The event will be broadcasted live, via the internet to the public, who will want to watch it and ask questions.

Athens Byzantine Museum - At 20:30
A unique event for the people of Nafplio everywhere, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the liberation of Greece, in collaboration with the Association of Nafplio citizens All around "Nafplios". The event will be accompanied by the Academica Athens Orchestra, with a unique concert.

Saturday, July 3rd to Thursday, July 8th 2021
With an artistic intervention, the Municipality of Nafplio in collaboration with the School of Fine Arts and the Konstantakopoulos Foundation, but also the groups "Urban Act" and "RTM-one" and Manolis Iliopoulos, will graffiti the walls of the city's schools. Within a few days, the artists with their sprays are invited to capture the figures of the heroes who fought for the freedom of the Greek State two centuries ago, as well as the portrait of our poet Nikos Karouzos.

Anniversary event, with speaker the professor of History Mr. Tassos Chatzianastasiou, the Municipal Mixed Polyphonic Chorus and the female vocal ensemble "Symphony", under the direction of the conductor Theodossis Antoniadis, as well as the Greek Dance Workshop of Christos Leventis

Saturday, July 10th to Sunday, July 18th 2021
30 Years of Nafplio Festival
The Nafplio Classical Music Festival celebrates a double anniversary: the completion of its 30 years, but also the 200 years of the Liberation of Greece.
An institution of international scope now, the Nafplio Festival will take place from the 10th to 18th of July, under the artistic direction of Giannis Vakarelis, and -due to its anniversary character- will travel back in time and will remember all the internationally renowned artists, that they have honored it.

At Vouleftiko building - "Nafplio, a place of memory" exhibition.
The symbols and images, the messages and slogans, the spirit and the momentum, the dynamism and the dimensions of the Greek Revolution inspire, converse and are imprinted in the creation of the works of contemporary Greek artists, in a group exhibition, curated by the Director of the National Gallery -Nafplio Branch- art historian Mrs. Lamprini Karakourti.

Friday, July 23rd 2021
Nafplio Port - at 21:00
Aegina-Nafplion-Athens, three cities as stations, are connected and talk symbolically, musically.
With live streaming, audio messages will be transferred from one city to another. The city of Nafplio will be musically represented by the famous singer Alkistis Protopsalti.

Weekend, July 24th-25th 2021
"Celebrations of the cities" - action of the Commission "Greece 2021"
51 cities celebrate the 200th anniversary of the liberation of Greece. Nafplio is leading through Dance, Song, Sculpture, Exhibitions and Workshops.

At The lighthouse of Nafplio - at 21:00
Traditional costumes and dance. Event with the participation of the Lyceum of Greek Women and all the Local dance groups.

Aris Tzonevrakis - Embroidering bridges in fashion. Open event, with the support of the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation (PFF).

At 21:00 - Philhellinon Square
Musical performance: "The desire for Freedom"
The "Takim", six of the most important masters of Greek traditional music, collaborate with distinguished performers and present a performance of music and speech, dedicated to the two hundred years since the Greek revolution. The songs, which narrate and praise the shocking events of 1821, are heard through the rare skill of one of the most important orchestras of traditional music of our country, as well as with the dramatized text narratives of the time.

"Naftiki Nafpliada" - Nafplio Port (position "P")
The Nafplio Naval Events under the name "Naftiki Nafpliada" is a celebration for the sea, for the people who serve it, for all the people who live here, who enjoy and get inspired by the sea breeze that runs through the Argolic gulf and returns to us from Bourtzi castle. The Nafplio Naval Events are organized by the Municipality of Nafplio, the Regional Unity of Argolis, the "Palamidis" Progressive Club of Nafplio and the Association of the people of origin from Nafplio living everywhere named "Nafplios".
