Vouleftiko - Woman's day, March 8th 2019

The Municipality of Nafplio has organized a very interesting and appropriate event to honor the Woman's Day, on Friday, March 8th 2019, in "Vouleftiko" (Old Parliament).
The event aims to highlight the achievements of great women, but also to stress out the importance of every woman's contribution in our modern society, holding a universal and complex role.

The event is dedicated to Mrs. Ioanna Papantoniou.

Mrs. Ioanna Papantoniou is an awarded Greek stage and costume designer, founder and president of the“V. Papantoniou” Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation (PFF). She mainly dealt with the fieldwork of research for the Greek garment.
She is the first woman stage designer of the Hellenic National Theater, as well as the first woman executive at the ancient theater of Epidavros, with her work in "Orestis" ancient tragedy, directed by Alexis Solomos and with Nikos Kourkoulos starring, in his first appearance in Epidaurus.
In 1981 she was honored by the Academy of Athens for her contribution to science and theater, and in 1987 she was awarded the Ministry of Culture's Prize for her costume design in the film "Doxobus" by Fotos Lamprinos. In 2000 she was awarded the Gold Cross of the Order of the Phoenix by the President of Greece. In 2004 the Hellenic Centre for Theatrical Research awarded her the Panos Aravantinos Prize for her lifetime achievement in the theatre and in stage design. In 2013 she became the first winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award newly instituted by the European Museum Academy (ΕΜΑ). 
She served as a professor in the Department of Theater Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Patras and the University of Peloponnese in Nafplion. She is Honorary Doctor of the Department of History and Archaeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
