On Saturday night, of December 17th 2022, Fougaro Art Center welcomes Jolly Jumper and Big Moe live, for a musical time travel through decades gone by, for fans of classic blues and beyond...
Jolly Jumper is a gifted singer, with a distinctively powerful voice. In the sound of his harmonica, there are influences of Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson and James Cotton, while his guitar's technique is close to that of Blind Boy Fuller.
Big Moe has been playing electric guitar since the mid-60s, influenced by Buddy Guy and Freddie King and acoustic, reminiscent of musicians like Lightning Hopkins, Mississippi John Hurt and John Jackson. Moe still plays mandolin and slide steel guitar and sings like Tom Waits on a happy day.
Guitar and harmonica is a traditional combination in the history of blues, and Jolly Jumper and Big Moe use it in the best possible way. Their approach to classic acoustic blues is respectful and original, and their relationship with audiences has developed through the sensitivity that radiates from their playing over the years they have been together as duet. With the music and songs they choose, they take us on a journey through the 20's, 30's and 40's presenting many different styles of playing and singing. They became better known in the circles of blues friends, through the show of L. Antonopoulos "Musicians of the World" for NET, taking part together with Louisiana Red and the rebetiko group "Taksimi" in the production "Passion Operation".
A common finding from their performances is that Jolly Jumper and Big Moe are real entertainers, who have a good time playing together and leave us no choice but to have a good time with them too!...
