The Ancient Theater of Epidaurus in 2021 will feature one of the richest programmes in the history of the Epidaurus Festival with 10 premiers of great interest this year. The ancient theater will once more come artistically alive and the space will vibrate with life, like the noisy Greek summer!...
These performances will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from June to early September. We will have the opportunity to enjoy shows both by veteran directors, who have already presented their work in Epidaurus, as well as by four directors making their debut in Epidaurus this year.
In September, we will be glad to watch the world-premiere of an international co-production of the Athens-Epidaurus Festival: the German theatre director Thomas Ostermeier and his company Schaubühne, return to Greece diving into the Ancient Drama for the very first time, staging a new plan by the writer Maja Zade, that brings Oedipus' myth to the present. The Festival will also present the almost unknown satirical drama of Sophocles "Ichneftai" (Trackers), directed by Michael Marmarinos.
