Yacht Nafplio is launching an original Cultural Program for Spring and Summer 2023, where it will host local artists and showcase their work in special cultural evenings with... a lot of color! Therefore, it holds its first exhibition on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th of March 2023, with British artist Kevin F. Hopkins, who lives in Nafplio, presenting his painting collection titled "Old Nafplio: The Reflection".

About Kevin
Born in Liverpool, U.K., in the 1950s, Kevin has spent a long teaching career working in many different countries worldwide as a teacher of Art and Art history. Now, semi-retired and living in Nafplion, Kevin has time to produce more of his own work in his small studio at home.
All artists are influenced by those gone before them, and I have always been a great admirer of the artists working during ‘The Golden Age’ of Art, in Holland in the 17th century. The street scenes of Delft and Amsterdam, by Johannes Vermeer and Pieter De Hooch, were on my mind when working on the pieces for this exhibition.

About the artworks
The works produced over the past two years are a documentation of Nafplion. The intrinsic beauty of the town often goes unseen or unrecorded by the visitor to its historic streets. These works try to encourage the viewer to stop and appreciate everything seen in a walk around the town, whether it be a reflection in a shop window or observing the early morning summer light on the shimmering streets and buildings.
It is hoped that, firstly, the viewer might recognise some of the street scenes, buildings and viewpoints represented, even if they might seem removed slightly from the norm. It is hoped that after visiting the works exhibited that the audience might then stop and take another look at their surroundings and learn to appreciate the unusual effects of light, and light reflected, not only in a window but on surfaces and edifices. Nafplion will always offer the flowers that Matisse once said were everywhere for those who might bother to look for them.

Did you know that?
Working in oil paint is very often the artist's first choice of media, although in this exhibition drawings in soft pastel, charcoal, pencil, and ink can be seen, each offering a different flavor to the menu on offer.
Kevin lives and works in quiet, between Nafplio and Tolo.
