Fougaro - Tseklenis, "The years of fashion", October 7th - November 25th 2018

"Fougaro", in collaboration with the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, presents to "Fougaro, The Gallery" in Nafplion a great retrospective exhibition dedicated to the Greek creator Yiannis Tseklenis. The exhibition focuses on the designer's work through collections of clothes and fabrics, starting in 1965 -when he first introduced his collection- and ending in 1991, with his final withdrawal from the world of fashion.

In addition, it includes a selection of Yiannis Tsekleni's creations, many fabric patterns, photographs, documentaries of the time, films and rare visual material from the designer's archives. The exhibits come from the two significant donations of the artist to the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, in 1997 and in 2009, which enriched the Foundation's collections with 685 garments and 978 designs and models.

Yiannis Tseklenis -a complex case for the Greek reality, a textile, fashion, aviation and transport designer, an entrepreneur, artist, photographer, an interior architect, especially a visionary- has marked by his presence over five decades. During this time, the designer claimed his own place in the global creative world, has influenced many creators, but also got influenced by all the great artistic trends of his time and earlier. Yannis Tseklenis's creative path identifies with the passage of Greece itself from the "innocence" of the 1960s with the rise and glamor of that time, to a cruel adolescence with the dream of an industrial revolution crashing, and a missed opportunity for the country to become a prominent player in the international fashion industry. He marks the passage of the fabric shops, the haute couture with the first seamstresses or fashion houses, to the clothing industry with the production of luxury clothes, as Yiannis Tseklenis is the first creator who designed recognizable garments. The strong identity of his creations is due to the fact that he designed the fabrics in modern themed collections. His name is also associated with the rise and fall of the Greek textile and domestic fashion industry, since he was mainly a textile designer. In addition, during the transition from natural to synthetic fibers, Yiannis Tseklenis introduced to the Greek world the know-how for the processing of the fabrics produced.

The exhibition will be framed by events and workshops for children and adults, as well as by a special edition in collaboration with Kastaniotis publications.
